2016 PL Week Zero
Hi, everyone! Today I'm sharing my first "weekly" spread of 2016. It's week "zero" because it only covers January 1-3. All photos are from my iPhone. Let's go!
To mark each month, I've decided to use a slightly edited version of Harley Quinn and Co.'s monthly calendar. You can find the link to that and to the Elise Blaha quote card in my plans and supplies post. I did my best to chop it and fit it into these baseball card protectors. I also plan to add a tab as an interesting element, but haven't gotten around to that yet!
The top right card was a "wildcard." It came in the January CT kit, as well, but I had a yellow vision for this page and the light blue didn't really factor into my plans. Well, when else am I going to use that card, right? So I decided to make blue my second "pop of color" on this page and I really like the result. So, thank you, blue card! Then I added a teal star die cut and the circle cutout from the bottom right vellum, along with some star embellishments, and tiny attached it. The card also had pink paint splotches, which I didn't love at first, but it's subtle enough that it works.
To the photo of me and my pup wearing matching t-shirts, I added some puffy stickers from the CT kit. Since I don't have any "real" kids, I took the opportunity to use the "mommy style" sticker and it happily matched my color scheme! And "besties" in blue because obviously. To the quote card, I added some more star embellishments. I liked the quote for starting 2016!
The selfie of half of my face was from a walk I took that weekend. Here's a tip- I was wearing a bright orange hat that did not go well with my color scheme this week. I had the option of going black and white, but I decided to edit it heavily and tone down the orange with a filter so it would mesh better with the rest of my photos and my "yellow" color vision. Use what works for your spread, but remember you have lots of resources on your phone!
The yellow card, right, was from the Studio Calico Documenter kit from December, I believe. I added a wood veneer star to work in the wood veneer, as well as the star theme. Then I tucked under the "January" from the CT cutout sheet (happily matching in blue!) and tiny attached it and grounded it all with some black and white heart washi tape from my stash. I LOVE that pop of black, it really makes the little cluster stand out and gives it dimension. One of my resolutions is to make more use of washi tape!
This is a photo from my walk. I added the geotag digital stamp and words on my phone before printing. I loved the starkness of the trees in winter, but the photo was kinda "bleh." Not bright enough. So I grabbed a scrap of vellum and used my circle punch to cut a focus area where the path met the treeline and attached with the tiny attacher. Then I stamped the sentiment three times on the vellum next to it in black Staz On. I also added a wood veneer star to make a visual triangle with the three wood veneer pieces and also to bring some texture to the stark vellum.
This journaling card is from the December CT Pocket Life kit. I added my journaling with my laser printer and embellished with the plus sign puffy stickers. I loved how "notes from the field" went with my outdoor picture. And I also love birds, so it was a perfect fit! The photo on the right is a juice I bought after my walk. It was yummy and it was yellow, so I decided to include it. It brings some brightness into that corner!
I really like how this week turned out and I'm happy with my decision to be more intentional with choosing my photos and with trying to make things coordinate. It didn't hurt that the CT and SC kits went so well together. I had lots of yellow and blue to choose from this week. Thanks for reading and I hope you like it!
