Be bold
It's been a while since I did a 2-page spread in my PL album, so this was a stretch! I'm of the opinion that the bigger the space you're trying to fill, the harder it is to coordinate all of the elements. 6x8 is pretty straightforward for me and 12x12 gets more difficult. Your experience may be different, but this is a challenge I face regularly.
Neither my photos nor my stories were part of one theme, it was a random mishmash of things that happened that month. My solution was to find a single card or collection with colors that I could build off of. I happened to find this digital collection from Sahlin Studio called documentary. I thought this floral card was so beautiful and it had so many colors in it that I used it as the basis for my entire color scheme.
As you can see, it has teal, light blue, orange, navy, and green in it. Lots of options! Since my color scheme was so broad, I kept the embellishing to a minimum and focused on stamping. I got lots of use out of Kelly Purkey Dalton and Walter alphas.
I did the alpha outline in black ink and offset the filler alpha in gray ink. It's a really hip look and I like it a lot!
I was in love with this bold orange Kelly Purkey kit card and I was glad I could incorporate it. i also liked the rainbow "cheers" card and used the alphas to stamp in the middle.
After I arranged all of my cards for weight and color balance, I added a few wood veneer embellishments and one flair. Since the cards are so bold, I could go light on the embellishments and the layout still has a lot of interest.
