Lake Life
It's been a while and I am so happy to be back! I stopped blogging for a while because life got in the way. I was still posting on instagram but I really missed sharing my thoughts long-form about scrapping.
Today, I am posting about a layout I did using a mix of manufacturers. The paper is Studio Calico Lost River kit, the alphas are Freckled Fawn, and the flags are Scraptastic. Everything else is a scrap or is so old I have no idea what manufacturer it is!
This is a photo from 2014 of my then-boyfriend, now-husband, and our little dog at my favorite place in the whole world. I wasn't sure where I was going with it, but I love this photo and this place because I love the water so I went with a nautical theme and it got real nautical real fast.

This is a photo from 2014 of my then-boyfriend, now-husband, and our little dog at my favorite place in the whole world. I wasn't sure where I was going with it, but I love this photo and this place because I love the water so I went with a nautical theme and it got real nautical real fast.
I started by layering up some background papers and putting my photo where I wanted it. I liked how the background mimicked the wood to treeline to sky. Then I added the vertical strip for some contrast. The black and white diagonal strip is a branding strip that I added for some layering. Then I added the vellum flags, after I trimmed some into more nautical flag-like shapes. I sewed through that strip.
I struggled a little bit with the title because there wasn't anything with the proper scale. But I found some old Freckled Fawn vellum alphas that fit the bill. I had enough to spell out both words but I wanted the top to be on the lighter color and the bottom to be on the darker and both needed contrast to stand out. I glued the top ones down in a way that make them look like they're bouncing on the water and then outlined the bottom ones in white pen, going over it a few times.
Then, to incorporate more color and blend in the vellum pennants, I found some scraps in colors similar to the flags and started cutting. This was so fun and I felt like a little kid again. Arts and crafts for the win! I added another neutral branding strip and sewed them onto that after lightly gluing in the shape I wanted.
To finish it off, I added some neutral cork, which is always my go-to, in 3 places. I added in my journaling with a white pen and called it done!
Thanks for reading!
